Orem Real Estate
Orem city, Utah is located adjacent to Provo and about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City. The city is named after Walter C. Orem who was the president of the Salt Lake and Utah Railroad in the early 1900’s. It was incorporated on May 5, 1919. Orem is now the fifth largest city in Utah and home to one university, Utah Valley University, and a minor league baseball team, the Orem Owlz.
In 2010, Forbes rated the city the “5th best place to raise a family.” This beautiful town borders the gorgeous Mount Timpanogos and Wasatch Mountain range and is perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors. The city has 22 city parks and maintains 3.5 miles of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
Things to do
Hale Center Theater – The theater is perfect for anyone who loves live performances. They put on several major productions every year. They also have a youth stage season where you can see plays such as Seussical or Moana Jr. You will find classes for budding actors where they will learn how to memorize lines and sing on stage. It is a nonprofit organization and a huge support to the arts in the area.
Orem Owlz – If you love baseball, you’ll love attending an Orem Owlz game. The Home of the Owlz stadium is located on the campus of Utah Valley University. You’ll find indoor and outdoor batting cages, a training facility, and clubhouses for home and visitor fans. It is one of the most picturesque minor league stadiums in the country.
Get Air Hang Time Adventure Park – Looking for fun for the whole family? A visit to Get Air Hang Time Adventure Park is the perfect outing. It’s much more than just another trampoline park. You can fly through the air on a trapeze, battle it out on the fort nerf battle royale, complete a warrior course, or do an adventure climb! It’s one of the most popular indoor experiences in the city.
Scera Center for the Arts – The Center opened in 1941 and is a non-profit organization dedicated to the arts. It has two theaters and a huge lobby. They also built the Scera Shell Outdoor Theater where you will find concerts, outdoor movies, and plays all summer long.
All-Together Playground – Built by 4,100 volunteers in only 6 days, this unique park is an all-abilities playground. It was specially designed for children with disabilities and offers inclusive play opportunities for children of all ages and abilities.
Points of Interest
Olmstead Power Plant – The power plant was built in 1904 and remained in use until it was decommissioned in 2015. It is located at the mouth of Provo Canyon and was a marvel of its time. After generating power for 111 years, the old plant is now a museum that tells the story of the early years of this historic plant.
Joshua Davis House – Originally built between 1892 and 1896, this building still stands on Main Street in Orem. Joshua Davis also owned a large orchard in the town. The architecture of the home is indicative of the simple homes many farmers in the era built.
Timpanogos Chapel – The chapel is one of the oldest chapels in the city. Built in 1895, the chapel still remains in use today. In the early days, it was also used as a community center.
University Place Mall – Previously known as University Mall, University Place is a large indoor mall. Built in the 1970’s, the mall has undergone many updates and renovations and currently sits on 112 acres. Complete with a large outdoor park in the heart of the mall, you’ll find everything you need for a day of shopping, dining, and entertainment.
The Family Center in Orem – This small outdoor mall includes 19 stores and is conveniently located in midtown Orem. You’ll also find several restaurants nearby.
Schools in Orem are part of the Alpine School District. The school district encompasses most of Utah County and a portion of the city of Draper in Salt Lake County. It is the largest school district in Utah.
